Lee Olmstead

Woodbridge High School Association Representative

Lee Olmstead is serving in his first year as Woodbridge High School building representative and is in his third year of teaching as a Business Education Instructor.

Lee graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1979, worked on missile radar systems in the Navy leaving with an Honorable Discharge, and then worked for twenty years in various manufacturing industries with over half in the chemical sector. Along the way he obtained his Associates in Applied Science Engineering Technologies from Delaware Technical and Community College, and Bachelors in Applied Science Engineering Technologies and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Delaware. With his love of working with kids and not wanting to relocate his family due to declining chemical manufacturing job opportunities, Lee decided to pursue the ARTC program the State of Delaware offered for critical needs areas and become a certified teacher.

He has been married since 1985 to Lisa Hammond and has three children: Jillian, David, and Hayden. His mom is a former teacher in CR and taught for approximately forty years. She also is a former CREA President, DSEA member, and NEA delegate. His recently passed mother-in-law and two sister-in-laws are also teachers.

His interests revolve around his love of and for his kids. He is the Cub Scouts Pack 297 Committee Chairman and Asst. Den Leader, Boy Scouts Troop 24 Assistant Scout Master, held multiple positions with the Camden Wyoming Little League from VP of Softball and a member of the Executive Committee to coaching baseball and softball, and with his wife started the Central Bay Cruisers Fastpitch Softball organization offering the central Delaware region girls an opportunity at fastpitch softball tournament style play.

Lee accepted a leadership role because he believes in participating if you wish to steer change. Experience has shown him changes are better made by working from within than trying to hammer away from the outside. He likes to involve as many people as practical in seeking balanced and equitable solutions.
